Syllabus:

Application of analytical approaches and source data sets related to urban planning. The complexity of central Perth serves as the contextural setting.
 

Unit Outcomes:

Upon completion of this unit students will have developed an understanding of the Central Perth District (CBD) and its central historical perspectives, form and function, commercial land use analysis (core versus frame), statutory planning (critical discussion on the impact of planning legislation), and strategic planning (critical discussion of policy priorities and strategic initiatives workshop). Gained understanding of urban renewal - global cities (the current round of socio-economic restructuring),gateway and competitive city ideologies, East Perth Redevelopment Authority, and gentrification versus affordable housing. Developed an understanding of Northbridge - historical perspectives, trends in tourism, culture and entertainment, and consumption of place and place marketing.
