Syllabus:

Contrastive learning and teaching styles with special reference to teacher-student roles in Asian and Australian societies. Practical work in course design, and materials development or case study research and an overview of the state of the art of teaching and learning styles.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Identified, compared and contrasted characteristics and theoretical underpinnings of methods and approaches used in TESOL. Assessed the appropriateness of different methods and approaches for different learners. Demonstrated an understanding of second language acquisition theory and its application to TESOL. Demonstrated and understanding of the major issues in the field of TESOL and the implications for classroom teaching. Demonstrated an understanding of the different learning styles and strategies of the second language learner and their effects on learning outcomes.

Journal search and Report on the State of the Art in an area related to applied linguistics/language teaching 40%. Learning styles and strategies pilot investigation 40%, Oral Presentation on a topic 20%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
