Syllabus:

Achives and their management particularly in the Australian context. Archivists work in a constantly changing environment. Changes in legislation and in record keeping theory and technology in particular are having far reaching consequences on what archivists do and how they do it. An introduction to archival principles that provide the basis for practice.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Described the basic theoretical concepts relating to current practice in archives administration and practice. An understanding of the nature of archives and their importance to modern society. Explained the relationship between archives and record management and the 'heritage' industry. Identified and described the major components of a well managed archives programme. Evaluated whether an archives program is well managed. Developed a basic archives programme for a small organisation. Demonstrated mastery of some of the basic processes involved in managing an archive through the processing of a small archives collection/series.
