Raoult and Henrys Laws, activity coefficients, partial quantities and Gibbs-Duhem Equation. Ideal solutions, excess quantities, regular solutions, application of above to electromotive force measurements on alloys, relationship between these and phase diagrams, application of thermodynamic data to phase diagrams - Clausius Claperyon Equation. Ellingham diagrams and graphic representation of thermodynamic data - predominance area diagrams.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Defined the thermodynamic concepts given in the syllabus and related these to metallurgical practice. Derived equations that transpose thermodynamic data and performed the operations on typical data related to metallurgical operations.
