Syllabus: | An introduction to the methodology of scientific research. Focus on issues such as forms of inquiry, problem formulation, theory construction, research designs, measurement, data analysis and validity of research. Students are expected to develop an understanding of the key components of the research process and how to handle and avoid methodological problems commonly encountered in research. As part of the unit, the student should formulate the basic plan for the honours disseration. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - A sound grounding in research methodology and practice. A good knowledge of the difference between applied and basic research. A good understanding of the reasons for surveying the literature. An understanding of the relevant data sources, and the ability to extract appropriate information. An understanding of the need to identify theoretical framework variable. An ability to demonstrate good writing, speaking out, presenting and information literacy skills. |
