Syllabus:

Treatment of data. Principles of fire assaying. Spectrophotometry. Atomic absorption spectroscopy. Emission spectrography. Electroanalytical methods. Thermal techniques. X-ray fluorescence, x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, electron probe and energy dispersive systems, transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Evaluated data to determine accuracy and precision. Identified the major step in the fire assay. Identified the components of major analytical instruments including spectrometers, x-ray defractometers and the scanning electron microscopes. Selected the appropriate analytical techniques for mineral analysis and through theoretical knowledge transpose raw data into an analytical report.
