Syllabus:

Introduction to economics. The mixed economy and the role of government. Demand, supply and price determination. Types of markets. Mineral commodity markets. Mining in the Australian economy. Elements of macro economic policy. Mining and international trade. Exchange rates, the balance of payments and international competitiveness.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An appreciation of the meaning of key economic terms and concepts. Distinguished between macroeconomic and microeconomic approaches to economic analysis. Illustrated the application of economic concepts to the minerals and energy sector.
