Syllabus:

Explanation of safety in the workplace and safety hazard control techniques, management of hazards and injuries, machinery guarding, lockout and tagging, fire and explosion, construction safety, electrical safety, transport safety, confined spaces. An introduction to accident causation theories and accident instigation and reporting.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate an understanding of the identification of a range of mechanical, electrical, fire, explosion, construction and confined space hazards in workplaces. Demonstrate an understandingof the requirements for Design Registration and Individual Registration of plant and machines. Assessed the risks associated with several workplace hazards. Described a range of control measures, such as the hierarchy of control to manage workplace hazards together with specific controls for particular hazards.
