Syllabus:

General historical, descriptive and diagnostic information about a range of psychopathology and maladaptive behaviours, including affective disorders, anxiety - phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, childhood disorders and developmental disabilities, sexual variations and dysfunctions, and stress related problems. Treatment approaches.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate an understanding of historical conceptualisations and treatments of psychological disorders. Demonstrate a basic understanding of relevant theory underpinning a range of psychological disorders. Demonstrate a basic understanding of evidence-based approaches to the treatment of a range of psychological disorders. Consider the influence of broader environmental and social factors on our conceptualisation of psychopathology. Consider the influence of broader environmental and social factors on the development, maintenance and treatment of psychopathology.
