Syllabus:

Fundamentals and formulation of the finite element method (FEM), boundary element method (BEM), finite difference method and discrete element methods. Modelling methodologies. 2D and 3D applications.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will have - Understood the fundamentals of numerical modeling as it applies to mining engineering.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Continuous assessment 50%, Examination 50%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
