Syllabus:

Morphology, classification, evolution and paleontology of the main invertebrate and plant fossil groups. Paleontology in stratigraphy on a world wide basis. The stratigraphic record and stratigraphic nomenclature. Principles of stratigraphic correlation -transgressions and regressions. Stratigraphic principles applied to basin analysis. A review of sedimentary basins in Australia.
 

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the content of the syllabus. Sufficiently completed all practical work and assignments to the satisfaction of the unit coordinator. Achieved a pass mark in any theory examination based on the subject matter.
