Syllabus:Fixation and processing techniques of tissues for paraffin, cryostat and Electron Microscopy methods. Microtomy skills and proficiency, serial sections, Haematoxylin and Eosin proficiency and quality control, special histology stain methods, lipid, carbohydrate and enzyme histochemistry stain methods, immunohistochemistry stain methods and applied electron microscopy.

Unit Outcomes: On successful completioin of this unit students will have- Competence in all routined and all special histopathological techniques, immunohistochemistry techniques and introductory Electron Microscopy techniques and be able to independently implement these procedures in the work place. Routinely produced excellent histological step and serial paraffin sections and consistently stain and evaluate high quality Haematoxylin and Eosin and associated special stains for diagnostic purposes. Become proficient with the maintenance and operation of the cryostat and the production and the production of good quality frozens for Haematoxylin and Eosin and routine neuropathological, histochemical and immunohistochemical stains. Completed a short work experience program in a nominated histopathological laboratory.
