Syllabus:History of human and animal bond, ethics of humans using animals, community problems caused by pets, pets and children, human health problems from pets, animals used for food, biomedical research, sport, therapy, dog and cat behaviour as it affects human and animal interactions, pet loss, zoos and their educational value.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - a foundation of knowledge about the interrelationships of people and animals which will help develop critical thinking about and evaluation of these complex human-animal relationships. The ability to critically analyse their own relationships with animals and that of others which can lead to a more fulfilling life for themselves and the animals with whom they share an existence.
