Syllabus:The Electromagnetic Model. Vector Analysis. Static Electric Fields. Laws of Coulomb and Gauss. The scalar potential. Capacitance static electric fields. Static magnetic fields and inductance. Time varying magnetic fields. Maxwell Equations. Magnetic and electric properties of materials. Plane electromagnetic waves. Waveguides.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have developed advanced skills in solving physics problems. They will be able to manipulate coordinate systems, perform calculations on problems in volving electric and magnetic fields, recognise and apply Coulomb' and Gauss's law to electromagnetic problems, recognise and apply Maxwell's equations to electromagnetic problems and describe and solve problems concerning electromagnetic waves, waveguides and antennae.
