Syllabus:Historical context, childhood and the design of learning environments, gathering data and its use in teaching and learning. Development, learning needs, alternative models and theories, issues. Alternative views of learning, philosophy, theory and applications.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the stages of physical, cognitive, moral, social and emotional development of childhood and adolescence and their application to teaching. Analysed the learning process from the three major perspectives (behavioural, cognitive and humanist). Applied the three learning perspectives to teaching and learning. Evaluation of significant individual factors impacting on learning, including anxiety, motivation, gender and cognitive style.
