Syllabus:Histotechnology - basis of histopathological investigation, fixation, tissue processing, section cutting, basic staining theory and histopathological concepts. Immunology - the human immune system, antigens and antibodies and antigen-antibody reactions. Separation techniques - electropherosis and chromatography. Biochemistry - basic concepts of metabolism, energy production and storage.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Knowledge of theoretical and practical concepts of medical laboratory science and to continue to apply knowledge obtained in Medical laboratory Science 131. Demonstrated practical and theoretical expertise related to histotechnology, including fixation, processing, microtomy and staining. Demonstrated practical and theoretical expertise related to immunology, including the human immune system, antibodies and antigens, antigen-antibody reactions and complement. Demonstrated practical and theoretical expertise related to separation techniques, including electrophoresis and chromatography. Demonstrate practical and theoretical expertise related to clinical biochemistry, including proteins, enzymes, carbohydrates and lipids. Demonstrated theoretical concepts related to molecular biology, including replication and transcription of DNA, translation and protein synthesis.
