Syllabus:An introduction to anthropology, the appearance and development of anthropology as a discipline, the relationship between culture and biology, an introduction to the traditional topics of anthropology, marriage, family, kinship, gender, ritual, politics,economy and language, the holistic and comparative nature of anthropological work and the concepts and theories of contemporary anthropological practice.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have- An understanding of the main ideas developed within social and cultural anthropology, including, and most importantly, a consideration of how these ideas and understandings can be used within and beyond theuniversity. Developed of a range of study and communication skills (written, verbal and computer) that will make work at university and beyond much easier.
