Syllabus:Podology - systemic disease manifestations in the foot, clinical implications of systemic disease. Case studies. Clinical Podiatry - supervised clinical practice. Interviewing, examination, diagnosis and treatment of common podiatric pathologies. Clinical tutorials. Concept of total foot care. Relationship of structure and function to dysfunction.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - An understanding of various methods of measuring joint movements relevant to podiatry in the clinical situation. The ability to gather information concerning their patients from a variety of sources including an elementary physical examination conducted in a humanistic and understanding manner. Information gathering skills - following an accepted health care model such as SOAPE. The ability to interpret clinical information and recognise the morecommon podiatric pathologies, further to explain aetiological and pathological features of the presenting pathologies and generate a working diagnosis. The ability to plan therapeutic management's appropriate to the presenting symptoms and the patients' needs and desires. Further carried out supervised care following departmental policy. The ability to react to any clinical emergency and be prepared to offer first aid. Developed knowledge of specific podiatric pathologies affecting the foot and acquired a basic understanding of the relationship between systemic disorders and their manifestations in the foot.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: Clinical Assessment (2) 70%. Examination 30%. This is by grade/mark assessment. Students will be expected to carry out some of their clinical experience during inter-semester breaks as a requirement of Professional Registration in W.A.
