Syllabus:Selected topics in communications from the fields of information theory and coding - vector communication systems - error detection and error correcting codes, linear and convolution codes, Viterbi decoding - advanced modulation techniques, generalised theory of modulation - communication network design - network traffic characterisation and management - switching theory - ATM networking - optical comminications, devices and networks.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will acquire sufficient competency in learning tools and technique in the design, operation, synthesis and maintenance on the topics taken within the scope of the unit.
