Syllabus:How corporate strategies are formulated and implemented. The combination of the external environment and the organisation's internal structure and processes affect the strategic actions of the business. Copious use of models and current examples from thebusiness world emphasize practicality over theory.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Explored and critically evaluated the various issues related to strategy creation and implementation, to develop a practical approach for application in a work setting. Engaged in peer group studies in reviewing and formulating strategic plans. Been exposed to a wide variety of ideas and alternatives as to what actually constitutes strategy and how it depends on the context. Evaluated, compared and contrasted the major theoretical frameworks and ideologies espoused by the leading writers in the field of strategic management. Developed cognitive processes integral to strategic management, viz problem solving, evaluation, idea generation and integration, judgment and decision making. Developed a feel for an holistic approach to all the facets of strategy.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: Assessment will be in two parts a pass must be achieved in both parts to pass the unit. Part A - Class participation 10%. In Term Test 30%. Weekly typed critiques of set chapters and in class discussion of case examples 20%. Part B - Group case study 20%. Individual mini case study 20%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
