Syllabus:Introduction to database systems, Relational model and basic SQL, ER model, ER to relational mapping. Advanced SQL, SQL Programming, Triggers, Relational algebra, Normalisation, Data and Index Organisation, Relational query optimisation, Concurrency control, Crash recovery.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will gain an understanding of the concepts underlying contemporary database systems and be able to design and implement databases to support many common applications. They will gain an ability to apply knowledge of basic science and engineering using logic as the basis for database models and design of structures.
