Syllabus:

A series of seminars addressing contemporary issues in psychology and in the psychology of disability and rehabilitation. Vocational assessment, planning and evaluation, advocacy and mediation, counselling in rehabilitations systems. Professional and theoretical issues including professional ethics which may confront the practising psychologist.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will have been exposed to a range pf contemporary issues related to the following - The psychology of rehabilitation and disability, as well as general psychological practice. Vocational assessment, planningand counseling. The use of counseling skills in professional settings. The implementation of psychological interventions in rehabilitation and disability services. The application of communication skills which include bargaining, conflict resolution and negotiation with individuals and organisations in the process of client advocacy. Ethical issues in professional practice and within the context of disability and rehabilitation services.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Written assignments 40%, Case study assignment 30%, Practical skills examination 30%. All items of assessment must be submitted and passed (a minimum percentage of 50%) for a student to be considered for a pass in this unit.
