Syllabus:Covers two interrelated topics, the first involving the development of the students ability to record concepts and objects through Freehand Perspective Drawing. The second topic being an approach to solving problems through creative thinking. The Freehand Perspective Drawing component will utilise the relevant text to introduce the topics being covered which relate to the drawing of manufactured items using angular perspective. Along with a 'commonly made mistakes' component to assist students in their understanding of the drawing principles, an assignment related to the chapter and examples of past student answers included. The Creative Problem Solving component utilises the sketching skills to allow the students to freely record ideas as they are developed through a unique understanding of the problem being investigated.

Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed the ability to graphically record objects through freehand sketching. Understood the world around them and new directions to take in developing unique solutions to design investigations. Successful completion of this half unit will enable students to have an understanding of the following topics - Sketching component - Basic perspective terminology, including Vanishing Points, Picture Planes, Horizon Lines and One, Two and Three Point Perspective. Sketching basics including Line Weight and establishing on objects proportions. The use of the Three axes of Space to help record objects being looked down upon or being looked at. The drawing ellipses when they are face to face or edge to edge. Creative problem solving component - An insight into whatever you investigating, structurally, functionally and behaviourally. The use of speculation, ambiguity and analogies with products and nature to assist in idea generation and problem solving. Students will complete a major investigation into a topic of their choice to formalise their understanding of this problem solving approach.
