Syllabus:A semester of intensive research in an Indigenous Australian context and writing of the dissertation. Enable students to enact their research knowledge, skills and understandings by demonstrating their ability to plan and implement an effective and culturally appropriate small scale research and development project in an Aboriginal context. The research in which they engage should have benefits for those who are the focus of the research activities. It should also draw on an Aboriginal knowledge base that is relevant to the contexts studied. Students are required to undertake a supervised reading program relevant to their specialised topic, under the guidance of their supervisor.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: Dissertation 100%. Topic: The Program Coordinator will be responsible for approving student dissertation topics in consultation with the nominated supervisor. Length 10,0000 - 15, 000 works. Where a student produces a policy, program, plan or other significant research product, this may be included as an attachment to the dissertation and included in the word limit. The Head of Centre will be responsible for the appointment of two dissertation examiners with relevant expertise. At least one examiner must be external to the Centre for Aboriginal Studies, except where the Centre for Aboriginal Studies Academic Planning Committee explicitly approves otherwise. The awarding of First Class, Second Class and Third Class Honours will normally be determinedsolely on the basis of the Dissertation. Academic performance in coursework may only be taken into account in resolving 'borderline' cases.This is by Grade/Mark Assessment.
