Syllabus:	This field placement comprises an agency orientation week followed by 2 days a week for 13 weeks. Students have the opportunity to specialise in particular areas with an approved counselling supervisor. Through an action and reflection process students are expected to relate counselling theories and approaches to practice situations developing a variety of advanced competencies. Practice settings will be negotiated individually. Students will also be required to attend fortnightly integration seminars.
Unit Outcomes:	Upon completion of this unit students will have - Understood the purpose and role of placement organisation in the wider community. Identified and applied advanced specialised skills in counselling sessions. Be able to select from a wide range of practice models and be able to utilize them in counselling. Demonstrate significant counselling proficiency with individuals, couples or families. Practiced in accordance with counselling values and ethics, including the commitment to social justice and anti-discriminatory practice. Critically articulated professional counselling practices.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:	The student and the supervisor, in consultation with the liaison person, will develop a detailed Learning Contract. Students will be expected to demonstrate counselling expertise with individuals, couples or families. In part, the learning contract should address the following areas: The application of particular counselling theories and models to specific client groups. Evidence that counselling decisions are made with reference to ethical positions. Proficiency in recording client reports. Preparationfor, and utilisation of, supervision sessions. Evidence of self-awareness and its enhancement of practice. Identification of the appropriate role and function of the counsellor within the placement organisation and demonstration of effective team membership. Utilisation of community resources where appropriate. The relationship between the organisation and the broader social, economic and political context. Students must attend 90% of on-campus integration seminars and complete all written requirements satisfactorily.
