Syllabus:Principles of disease processes; causes, medical procedures, cell injury, inflammation and tissue repair, abnormal growth patterns. Roles of the blood cells and immune system in disease. Cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary and nervous system diseases - nutritional and metabolic diseases, musculoskeletal and connective tissue disorders.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Described the main structural and functional changes produced by disease processes at the cell, tissue and organ level. Identified and described the main structural and functional changes involved in disease processes in selected body systems, and compared and contrasted these changes with normal structure and function. Identified cause and effect relationships in disease processes. Applied principles of disease processes in problem solving and case history scenarios. Applied appropriate medical terminology in describing disease processes.
