Syllabus:Introduction and examination of the evolution of contemporary cities and the impact of change on land use, and the structure and functions of cities.
 
Unit Outcomes: Upon completion of this unit students will have examined the evolution of contemporary cities and the impact of change on land use and the structure and functions of cities. Developed an understanding of the impacts of industrialisation on land use and flexible capital and industrial mobility. Gained understanding of globalisation and intercity rivalry, and new economies, new technologies and the service city. Developed knowledge of the commodification of cities and its impact on land issues, and inner city housing, and the quest for community. Gained knowledge of urban design and redeveloping cities, the information and knowledge economy, and home based work. Gained knowledge of types of redevelopment and agencies and of redevelopment agencies.
