Syllabus:The nature of strategy and strategic planning. Integration of information systems planning and business planning. Determining organisational information requirements. Approaches to information systems planning. Information technology planning and the Information Systems (IS) portfolio. Competitive advantage - from strategic information systems planning or serendipity? An introduction to project management.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have an understanding of - The nature of strategy and strategic planning, and their purpose in modern business environments. IS Strategy Formulation and IS Planning in contemporary business environments. The need for integration of the IS plan with the corporate plan. An appreciation of the role of IS/IT in contemporary organisations, and to plan in order to benefit from the investment in IS/IT.
