Syllabus:

Development of an understanding of the importance of plan formulation, evaluation, implementation and monitoring in an integrated approach to urban and regional planning and development for local, regional and state levels. Presents a structured opportunity to engage in a simulated plan-making exercise which is comprehensive both in its topic coverage and in its attention to the main levels of planning. Application of skills and techniques which are central to the practice of physical planning and development.

Unit Outcomes:

Upon completion of this unit the student will have developed an understanding of the principles and skills required to prepare an integrated development plan for a district/sub-region implemented primarily by local government. This will have addressed the local, regional and State/national policy levels and incorporated policy actions and strategies, subdivision and development control policy at each level. Addressed topics required in a local planning strategy, including housing, employment, land use and transport integration, and community identity. Developed an understanding of site planning and infrastructure provision for urban renewal or green field development opportunities requiring site guidelines and the incorporation of these in town planningschemes, and other integrated planning strategies. Developed practical understandings of plan formulation, evaluation, implementation and monitoring and review giving particular emphasis to a policy manual, a land and infrastructure programme, the preparation of a scheme text, development guidelines, a financial plan and budget framework and human resource framework as appropriate - analytical, research, consultation and presentation techniques required as appropriate to each phase of the planning process
