Syllabus:Nuclear Medicine Component - Principles of nuclear medicine imaging of various systems and organs: skeletal, pulmonary, cardiovascular, endocrine and central nervous systems, renal, gastro-intestinal (GI) tract (including blood loss), liver, spleen and infection/inflammatory disease imaging. Radionuclide therapy and tracer principles. Integration and application of the common studies and practical aspects of instrumentation. Radiopharmacy Component - Production of radionuclides: characteristics and basic concepts of the chemistry of radiopharmaceuticals, Manufacture and use of cold kits. Radiopharmaceutical preparation, dispensing, behavior in vivo. Labeling blood components. Non imaging radiopharmaceuticals. Practical application of the basic principles. Computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MRI) and Interventional Component - CT and MRI scanning. Asepsis. Arthrography. Myelography, use of catheters in vascular radiography, venography. Interventional radiography, neuro-radiography, cardiac catheterization, vascular angiography, digital subtraction angiography.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit, the student will have a thorough knowledge of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MRI), Interventional and Nuclear Medicine imaging and their clinical applications, and basic practical skills in a range of nuclear medicine procedures.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: Assignments (2) 20%, Final Examination 60%, Ultrasound Practical Examination 20%. In order to pass this unit, a student must gain a score of at least 50%, with not less than 45% in each of these components. This is by grade/mark assessment.
