Syllabus:Structural Bioinformatics involves developing knowledge and understanding in protein structure, molecular forces, sequence and structural databases, protein and DNA interactions, molecular structure visualisation software programs, protein folding, protein structure methods, protein purification and relevant emerging biotechnologies.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have a theoretical understanding of how to purify proteins to homogeneity. An awareness of the principle methodologies used in the 3D structural determination of macromolecules. An understanding of the principles of protein and DNA structure and their interactions and be able to describe the nature of molecular forces involved. An understanding of the key issues relating to the flexibility and folding of macromolecules and the prediction of their structure. Developed the skills to search, retrieve, and interpret data files (pdb) describing macromolecular structure from the data banks. Developed the skills to use molecular visualisation programs to view and manipulate macromolecules to highlight their atomic detail and interactions.
