Syllabus:Measurement and instrumentation for main process variables - temperature, pressure, flow, level and weight. Selected on line analysers and computer interfacing for process control systems. Mathematical modelling of chemical processes. Dynamic behaviour of processes. Development of dynamic models from experimental datal. Basic components of control systems. Design of single-loop systems. Controller tuning techniques. Introduction to frequency domain methods.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit, students will be familiar with key aspects of process instrumentation, including specification and design of some of the key components. Understanding and modelling of the transient behaviour of dynamic systems. Introductionto the theory and practice automatic control. Introduction to the design and implementation of feedback control systems as well as the concept of closed-loop stability.
