Syllabus:Designed for students who have studies TEE Applicable Mathematics. Topics include spreadsheet fundamentals using Excel. Spreadsheets and graphics with Excel. Matrices and linear algebra in Excel. Basic programming concepts. Variables and data types, somesimple program examples. Subroutines and functions in Visual Basic. Built-in functions. Interaction between the User and macros. Control structures. Selection, including, If-Then-Else, Select-Case. Iteration, Do Until loop, Do While loop, For loop. Results presentation in Excel. Introduction to Maple. Graphical representation of data. Roots of equation. Linear equations. Markov matrices. Graphics using Maple.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Competency in using spreadsheets, specifically Excel. Developed an understanding of the elementary use of programming concepts, and the major issues in programming including variables, data types, control structures, subroutines and functions, and graphics. Gained knowledge and understanding of Visual Basic macros for Excel, a symbolic computation package and computer based algebraic manipulation.
