Syllabus:Assist in understanding the research process by providing key pointers to information that forms the content of the course. Designed to help develop a capacity to work independently in conceptualising an investigation and thinking about producing a doctoral thesis or Masters project report.
 
Unit Outcomes: After completing this unit students should be able to: articulate the main characteristics of the research process, draw upon various types of research methods for disciplined inquiry, understand different data gathering and analysis procedures, consider the ethical implications of research, develop a capacity to conceptualise a research design and commence planning a study and plan a Masters project or a doctoral study.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: The assessment for the unit consists of four formative assignments. Also, there are activities suggested to help students with their study. These activities are not assessed. Each assignment relates to a review of the content in each module in the printmode. Assignment 1 - The Educational Research Framework 30%. Assignment 2 - Choice of Method and Working with Data 30%. Assignment 3 - Ethics and Educational Research 30%. Assignment 4 - New Eyes 10%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
