Syllabus:Provides fundamentals of biochemistry and physiology of aquatic animals. Structure and functions of proteins lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids. Enzymes, hormones and neurotransmitters. Major biochemical pathways. Biochemical energetics. Chemistry of body fluids. Comparisons between land and aquatic animals where relevant. Major physiological processes in aquaculture species - respiration and circulation, osmoregulation, digestion, endocrinology, reproductive biology, immunity, and nervous system.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Demonstrated the knowledge and understanding of structure and functions of major chemicals in living systems. Understood the principles of participation of the chemicals of living systems in the processes of life. Explained the relationships between major metabolic pathways. Understood the relationships between different systems and processes in aquatic animals. Relate environmental conditions to adaptations in aquatic animals. Demonstrate skillsin biochemistry laboratory practice. Demonstrated a comprehension of instruction of supervisor and participated actively in group tasks.
