Syllabus:Animal production systems that utilise grazing strategies. Factors influencing productivity in grazing animal systems of production. Grazing management options available, and the advantages and disadvantages of those options. The individual characteristics that influence production from pastoral, agricultural and rangeland regions. The application of the principles of applied reproduction, population genetics to the development of breeding programs for grazing animals. Development of animal production plans for grazing animals.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Outlined the factors that influenced productivity in grazing animal systems of production. Described grazing management techniques that are commonly used both in Australia and around the world. Described the various grazing management options available, and explained the advantages and disadvantages of those options. Discussed the individual characteristics that influenced production from pastoral, agricultural and rangeland regions. Applied principles of population genetics to the development of a breeding program for grazing animals. Discussed the control and prevention of the major animal health problems affecting grazing animals. Developed animal production plans for grazing animals. Describedthe application of the use of new technologies to grazing animal systems.
