Syllabus:Addresses the importance of basic mathematics and engineering in aquaculture. The relevance of statistics to aquaculture research is introduced and students examine the role of a systems approach to fish farming practices.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations of relevance to practical aquaculture situations. Developed a conceptual understanding of basic engineering and its role in aquaculture system design. Described the relevance of statistics to aquaculture including descriptive statistics and probability theory. Be introduced to the 'systems' approach to fish farming.
