| Syllabus: | Quality assurance in pharmaceutical practice and its applications to pharmaceutical care and quality care programs. Community programs for opioid pharmacotherapy programs including regulation, storage, and supply of the drug under the program. The provision of pharmaceutical services to nursing homes, hostels and private hospitals. The role of the pharmacist in Health Promotion and Health Education. Basic pharmacy management, personnel management, occupational health and safety. Basic conditions of employment. Long service leave and superannuation, workers compensation. Business structure and partnerships. Small business and the law. Basic common law rights and obligations. A study of the ethics and history of pharmacy. Models and strategies in deliveryof health care. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have been introduced to Quality Assurance and Assessment in the provision of pharmaceutical services. Developed a knowledge of the role of the pharmacist in the provision of services to residential facilities. Developed a knowledge of the contribution pharmacists can make to Community Health Education, Health Promotion and harm minimisation strategies. Developed an understanding of the ethics involved in the practice of pharmacy. Developed an understanding of basic pharmacy management. Developed a knowledge of the legal limitations of the practice of pharmacy. Developed a background appreciation of the relevance of commercial law to the practice of pharmacy. Demonstrated an understanding of the history of pharmacy. |
