Syllabus:Underground mine design principles and practice. Design and layout of common underground mining methods. Mining method selection. Geotechnical design principles. Ore and waste handling. Cost estimation principles. Access location and design. Underground development layout and design. Stope sizing, layout and design. Development and production scheduling. Financial analysis. OH and S issues in underground mine design.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of applications of various underground mining systems. The ability to select and design a suitable underground mining method to extract the given ore body and to plan the mining operations to enhance safety, minimise cost and meet the mining and environmental regulations. The ability to use computer aided mine design packages.
