Syllabus:Review of basic principles and techniques as applied to mine surveying. Surface surveys for mining properties. Transfer of true meridian to an underground base. Gyroscopic methods used to find the north azimuth. Underground traversing. Stope surveys. Gradient control. Shaft surveys. Surface and underground setting-out surveys. Transformation of coordinate systems. Check surveys and survey adjustments. Preparation of surface and underground mine maps. Legal aspects of mine surveying.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Had exposure to the day-to-day tasks a mine surveyor would carry out on a daily basis. A sound understanding of the legal aspects of mine surveying.
