Syllabus:Engineering physics - vectors in mechanics. Waves and radiation. Introduction to nuclear physics. Engineering statics - coplanar forces. Moment of forces. Rigid body equilibrium. Stress and strain. Truss analysis. Shear force and bending moment. First and second moment of area. Engineering dynamics, Newton's Laws - transitional, rotational work, energy, impulse and momentum. Relative velocity. Curvilinear motion. Dynamics of particles and rigid bodies.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Understood the fundamentals of Newtonian statics and dynamics. Applied the principles of work-energy and impulse-momentum in problem solving.
