Syllabus:Introduction to process simulators - thermodynamic models. Pseudocomponents and hydrocarbon characterisation. Thermodynamic models - fitting non-ideal phase behaviour. Phase behaviour, dew points, critical behaviour, solids. Flowsheeting - refrigeration units. Flowsheeting - turboexpander plant - basic setup. Flowsheeting - turboexpander plant. Heat integration. Flowsheeting - fractionation plants. Flowsheeting - amine unit simulation - basic setup, effect of process conditions. Flowsheeting - dynamic simulation - Deethanizer application setup. Flowsheeting - dynamic simulation - Deethanizer control loops.

Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students should have been introduced to the simulation of typical industrial processing facilities with emphasis on practical applications. Students will do hands-on simulation and optimisation of several types of facilities in the Hysis environment.
