Syllabus:Integration within the English Learning Area. Text, conventions, processes and strategies for the teaching the written modes of English. Critical literacy through children's literature. Developmental perspectives for literacy instruction. Outcome focused approaches in teaching English.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Demonstrated a further understanding of the theoretical principles and practices which underpin the English Learning Area within the WA Curriculum Frameworks and Student Outcome Statements. Demonstrated an understanding of planning and teaching the written modes of English. Demonstrated an understanding of integrative processes and practices for teaching and learning literacy. Demonstrated an understanding of diagnostic teaching principles and practices within the English Learning Area. Demonstrated an understanding of current views on teaching critical literacy though appropriate children's literature.
