Syllabus:General contextual issues of convergence and globalisation, concentrating particularly on understanding the historical and theoretical contexts of globalisation. How globalisation and convergence have impacted on the realms of finance, the media and the social, paying particular attention to how various issues arising from the relationship of the global and the local are negotiated.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will - Have a basic understanding of the major issues confronting the government, industries, business and individuals in the decision-making processes in relation to the convergence of media and the communication technologies and their subsequent tendency towards globalisation. Be able to undertake an extensive case study demonstrating how a particular country or society meets the challenges posed by globalisation and convergence in the fields of information, media and communication technologies.
