Syllabus:Sampling and evaluation - types of samples, obtaining samples, error and bias, reduction and preparation. Granular material sampling. Gy's formulae. Estimation of ore reserve. Mass grade relationships, tonneage/grade curves. Grade control in production. Distribution of assay values. Introduction to statistical methods.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have a comprehensive understanding of the content of the syllabus sufficient to complete all practical work and assignments to the satisfaction of the unit coordinator and to achieve a pass mark in anytheory examination based on the subject matter
