| Syllabus: | The making of Australian society - historical evolution of a distinctive society. Special emphasis will be given to either the nineteenth century or twentieth century or to particular themes such as the impact of war on Australian society. The response of Australians socially and politically to booms and depressions. Australian national character. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have studied some of the major domestic crises and controversies in Australian politics and society from 1914 to the 1970s and 1980s so as to gain a greater understanding of the historical influences on the nature of Australian society. Surveyed major political, economic and social trends from 1914 to the 1990s. Been introduced to the significance of the prime ministership of John Curtin as a case study in myth making and the evolution of national heroes. Extended their grasp of the essentials of writing history essays. Considered historiographical aspects relevant to the above. |
