Syllabus:Explores in theory and practice what sustainable development means in the context of tourism by providing an overview of the different interpretations and outlining the policy and planning issues as well as sustainable management practices. A fieldtrip is an important component of this unit.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have - An understanding of the concepts of sustainable development and sustainable tourism. Identified key stakeholders in planning and development of sustainable tourism, their roles and responsibilities. An understanding of the nature of sustainable tourism management practices. The ability to evaluate the implementation of principles of sustainable tourism in different contexts in Australian and overseas.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: To achieve a pass grade in this unit, students must complete the requirements in relation to all of the following four areas of assessment and must achieve a mark of 50% or more in the total overall assessment. Class Participation 10%. Final Examination 40%. Group Project 30%. Tutorial Paper 20%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
