Syllabus:Psycholinguistics - first and second language acquisition/learning, learner styles and strategies. Language analysis, discourse analysis. Curriculum design - demographics (Australia), needs analysis. Practical teaching skills - presenting new language, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Shown awareness of learners cultural differences and similarities. Evaluated materials in terms of suitability to learners. Provided their learners with strategies for learning English as a second language. Structured a classroom environment, which maximises the learning potential of their learners. Demonstrated understanding of the way the English language is described linguistically - its morphology, syntax, semantics and phonology. Shown an understanding of the way language is socially constructed. Analysed discourse for teaching purposes. Provided learners with meaningful practice in listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. Understood the application of language acquisition theory to their teaching.
