Syllabus:Application of concepts, knowledge, skills and current research findings related to midwifery care of well clients in community and hospital settings. Exploration of the role of the midwife. Midwifery practice in antenatal, intrapartal, postnatal areas. ACMI Competency Standards for midwives (1998).
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Developed a personal philosophy of midwifery that is sensitive to the rights, needs and expectations of childbearing women. Utilised knowledge and skills to enable clinical decision making in theprovision of midwifery care. Established effective working relationships with other members of the health care team.
