Syllabus:Modifying birth practices. Evidence based plans of care in complex situations. Midwifery emergencies. Bereavement and loss. Delivery of health maintenance and promotion strategies for maternity clients. Evaluation of maternity care strategies through the establishment of outcome criteria and application of standards of practice.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated the capacity to utilise a problem solving approach in the design of strategies that promote and maintain the health of childbearing families when pregnancy and birth differ from essentially normal. Analysed the nature of collaborative relationships essential to the provision of maternity care when childbearing differs from essentially normal. Synthesised a conceptual framework that promotes and maintains the health of the childbearing family's maternity care when childbearing differs from essentially normal.
